I use recycled materials in my artwork to give it character and to help mother earth. If I can take something that I was going to throw away and turn it into something beautiful, I feel that it is more rewarding than going to a craft store and buying all new materials.

We only use gently upcycled clothing and handmade creations using fabric that has journeyed it’s way to us via donation or second hand. Candy Calamity

Using upcycled materials just makes sense to me because in most cases they are already here in my home and I can’t bring myself to throw away anything that could be used for art. Primarily I use candy wrappers and other food packaging because of the fun bright colors, but also because I love eating and making things that remind me of eating. As my business has grown, I can’t eat it all myself though, I depend on donations from friends and family to continue creating.

I try to upcycle most everything that I can! I am a mother of 2 fabulous children and it was getting unnerving when we would end up with a pile of useless clothing after every season. Sometimes in the middle of one because they outgrew them so fast! It started with a denim handbag, then my first pillow pack for my nieces, and now it is off to recreate the once useful-now useless-back to totally useful again!

August Love

When I began sewing, much of my inspiration would come from found materials, like at a thrift store, and no matter what, it created something unique that no one else had! Since then, my love for sewing has expanded into a business, and upcycling is a way to create unique and fun items, but also items that are earth-friendly and allow purchasers to feel good about purchasing an item that utilizes re-used fabrics, etc. For each item I make, I like to include at least one upcycled material, if possible, if not more.

I started upcycling when I began dumpster diving. I started dumpster diving and rescuing junk by the roadside when i saw how much useful junk ends up in our landfills. Not only is it better for the environment to upcycle, but it is more economical and a lot more fun!
